About

Since 2006 Expression of Hope has featured works of art by the community touched by lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs).

Program Guide

Expression of Hope encourages anyone who has been touched by an LSD to consider submitting a work of art. To participate, please follow these guidelines:

Who May Participate

Artists of all ages and artistic ability who have been affected by an LSD can submit an original work of art. Caregivers, friends and family members of people touched by LSDs can also participate. Artists under 18 years of age must have parental consent.

Artwork

The content of the artwork is completely up to the participating artists. It can express how an LSD has affected their life or the life of someone they care about. The most important part of Expression of Hope is that the art be a reflection of the artist’s individual story.

Submissions must be an original two-dimensional work on paper or canvas, including paintings, etchings, charcoal, mixed media, sketches, photographs, etc. Other forms of artistic expression such as sculpture, poetry, videos and music cannot be accepted. Submissions should be unframed and between 16” x 24” and 20” x 30” in dimension. Artists of all ages and artistic ability who have been affected by an LSD can submit an original work of art. Please note that the artwork cannot include any details about treatment of an LSD and cannot reference any products used to treat LSDs.

Artist Statement

Accompanying the artwork submission is a brief artist statement. This is where artists describe how the artwork expresses their unique story of how an LSD has impacted their life. Artists can express the hope and spirit of living with an LSD, and the courage and challenges of your personal experience as a patient, caregiver, healthcare provider, family member or friend. Please note that the statement cannot include any details about treatment of an LSD and cannot reference any products used to treat LSDs.

Format

Works of art must be an original two-dimensional work on paper or canvas, including paintings, etchings, charcoal, mixed media, sketches, photographs, etc. Other forms of artistic expression such as sculpture, poetry, videos and music cannot be accepted.

Specifications

The artwork should be unframed and between 16” x 24” and 20” x 30” in dimension.

Submission Process

Once an artist has completed his or her piece, it should be photographed unframed and digitally submitted to Expression of Hope using our online submission form. All submitted works of art that meet the entry criteria will be presented on the Gallery page after the program is completed. Expression of Hope III was initiated in 2014 and available online in 2015.

Ineligible Artwork

Please note that artwork that does not meet all the Expression of Hope program guidelines cannot be accepted. All submissions must be two dimensional works on paper or canvas. We are unable to accept any works of art that have been previously submitted to another art contest. We also cannot accept any art that includes images of products used to treat LSDs or any aspect of treatment of an LSD.

Featured Artwork

A panel of art experts will identify submissions to be selected as Featured Artwork, which will be displayed in global exhibits and materials. Art will be evaluated based on the emotive quality and the ability of the artist to express the experience of living with an LSD through the art and artist statement together. Pieces selected as Featured Artwork for Expression of Hope III were announced in 2015.

Deadline

Expression of Hope III was initiated in 2014 and became available in the online gallery in 2015.
